Family, friends, and members of the Jersey City, New Jersey, community continue to recover from a disturbing drive-by sulfuric acid attack that left six women injured, as authorities have announced charges against three teenagers in connection with the violent incident.
According to officials, the attack occurred on June 15 when a group consisting of three female teenagers and three adult women was allegedly targeted by suspects riding a moped. Investigators say sulfuric acid was thrown at the group, causing chemical burns and prompting an immediate emergency response.
All six victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities reported that the injuries were non-life-threatening but included painful skin burns and peeling. One 21-year-old woman sustained second-degree burns to her face and scalp and required specialized medical treatment. All of the victims were reported to be in stable condition.
Investigators have since detained three teenagers, ages 13, 14, and 15, in connection with the attack. The juveniles have been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, causing bodily injury, and other related offenses. Because of their ages, officials have not publicly released their identities.
Authorities believe the assault was a targeted attack that stemmed from an earlier dispute involving a larger group. While investigators have not disclosed the nature of the disagreement, they continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident as the case remains under investigation.
Witnesses described hearing an argument before screams erupted as victims cried out that they had been burned. Neighbors also recalled seeing emergency responders treating the victims before transporting them to nearby hospitals.
The shocking nature of the attack has raised concerns throughout the Jersey City community about access to dangerous chemicals and the increasing severity of youth-related violence. Residents have expressed sympathy for the victims while hoping those responsible are held accountable through the legal process.
The thoughts and heartfelt condolences of the community remain with the six women injured in this traumatic incident. As they continue their recovery, many are hoping they find healing, strength, and support from their loved ones during this difficult time.
Authorities continue to investigate the case, and additional information may be released as the legal proceedings move forward.
